PROTEST AGAINST THE ATTACK OF HINDUTVA FORCES ON RELIGIOUS MINORITIES AND RATIONALIST WRITERS AND INTELLECTUALS

The Editorial Team of FOR A PROLETARIAN PARTY (www.foraproletarianparty.in/fapp) vehemently condemns another incident of rampant assault on minorities. Mohammad Akhlaq, a middle-aged Muslim man of Bisada village in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh has been murdered by a mob on the basis of a completely false allegation that the family had slaughtered a cow and stored cow meat in the house. It has also been reported that the attack had been instigated by the priest of a local temple, who provoked the Hindu villagers to attack the family of the victim, by announcing the false allegation of cow slaughter through a public address system of the temple. A report on this incident of mob lynching of Dadri, prepared by an organization of educationists, intellectuals on the basis of their on-the-spot inspection, has also revealed that the attack was not a spontaneous incident, as is being made out to be by the leaders of BJP. The report reveals that the incident is a result of organized effort of some Hindu communal forces, which are actively working in the region for quite some time. This incident again brings to the fore the real aim of the Hindutva forces, whose communal activities have increased manifold after the ascension of Modi Government at the centre. The fascist forces of Sangh Parivar and other right-wing Hindu communal forces are continuously attacking the minorities, not only curtailing their freedom of religion, but also curbing their right to live peacefully and with dignity and equal rights with the people of majority religion.

It is needless to say that the incident of Bisada village is not an isolated incident. In recent times, a series of attacks have been organized against innocent Muslim people on the plea of cow slaughter, and eating of cow meat. Though the central government and the party in power, BJP, is trying to project these incidents as sporadic, spontaneous outbursts of Hindu religious people, many of whom worship cow as a sacred animal, it is apparent that these incidents are results of planfully built up, long standing campaign of Hindutva forces against cow slaughter. In recent times, the state governments of some states like Maharashtra and Haryana where BJP is in power, have either enacted new acts against cow slaughter or have reintroduced old acts, which had never been in force. It clearly shows that the BJP has taken up deliberately, and in a planned way, this agenda of cow slaughter to use the religious sentiments of people of Hindu religion for further communal division in the society. Otherwise, different state governments could not have taken up this agenda simultaneously. When the state governments controlled by Sangh Parivar are trying to enact or reintroduce laws from above, using their governmental control, the grassroot workers of Hindutva forces led by Sangh Parivar are organizing attacks on Muslim people and fanning up communal frenzy among Hindu common people on the issue of cow slaughter. So, how much they may try to put up an innocent face regarding these incidents, actually these are being done organisedly, in a planned manner by the Sangh Parivar led Hindutva forces. We strongly feel that this slogan of banning cow slaughter and eating of cow meat is against secularism and democracy. People of every religious and even various other communities belonging to same religion but diverse castes, nationalities etc… should have freedom to take or not to take any particular item as food or follow their own customs or traditions as passed down to them through generations. Forcing people of any particular religion to give up any particular food on the plea of religious sentiment of the majority community is tantamount to curbing freedom of following religious practices of minority communities and even curbing the freedom to not practice any religion at all. It is against the spirit of secularism. With this slogan the forces of Hindutva is trying to force their communal agenda and involve the great majority of the people in it.

Along with the fanning of communal passions and attack on the minorities on the issue of cow slaughter we are also observing that rightist, fascist forces of Hindutva is trying to silence the voice of rationalist people, who are actively working against superstition, obscurantism and fundamentalism. In recent times, eminent rationalists like Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and eminent Kannada writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee, MM Kalburgi have been murdered by Hindu fundamentalist and communal forces. Not only they were murdered, several other rationalists who are consistently fighting against obscurantism and fundamentalism of all religions have been threatened with dire consequences by the Hindu communal forces. Recently, the Hindutva forces, including ministers of BJP governments have launched severe attacks on the Sahitya Akademi Awardees who have returned their awards in protest against the silence of Sahitya Akademi regarding the murder of Sahitya Akademi awardee MM Kalburgi. Such attacks clearly show that the Hindutva forces have launched an all out attack on the democratic rights of people and their aim is to establish a fascist rule in the country.

While the Government at the centre remains apparently indifferent and silent, the BJP leaders, even cabinet ministers and MPs of the Modi government are issuing provocative communal statements, thus proving that they stand by this continuing aggression of the extreme hindutva forces that is assaulting whatever semblance of fragile democracy and unity that still prevails.

The communal organizations in the name of diverse Hindu outfits are building up the frenzy among the masses, distorting and utilizing such incidents to use it for their mileage for further spreading their communal politics and fascist, anti-democratic ideology. But the more ominous thing is they are building up this campaign and conflicts for an un-democratic fascist system of rule that suppresses all voices of dissent. After the ghastly communal incidents of Muzaffarnagar about two years back, repeated communal flare-ups have been provoked and promoted by such forces in Bawana, Trlokpuri, in the capital city of Delhi itself and in various other parts of the country. There have been repeated utterances from the BJP and Sangh Parivar leaders that this country Hindustan is only for Hindus that Muslims should go to Pakistan etc. Even trade union activists from nearby factories who through their fact-finding missions have tried to stand beside the victims of violence in Bisada exposing the communal, fascist designs are also being targeted.

We as representative of the advanced proletariat are observing with grave anxiety that beside the attacks on the rights of people of different minority religions and on the democratic rights of people as a whole, these forces are more and more diverting the poor and toiling from their real problems of livelihood, unemployment, price-rise etc and involving them in fratricidal conflicts thus communalizing the masses for furthering their fascist aims. It is further reviving various kinds of fundamentalist, reactionary forces among all religions and deepening the communal division in the society, especially among the working class and other toiling people, and thereby hampering the class unity, which is of utmost necessity for the struggle for emancipation from all exploitation.

It is heartening to see that many writers are protesting against these forces by returning the Sahitya Akademi awards they got previously. Many intellectuals, including many eminent scientists and historians have come out to protest against onslaught of forces of Hindutva. However, though their effort is commendable, their protest cannot resist the aggressive onslaught of the forces of Hindutva. Only the working class united with the peasants and other toiling people of the country can resist the aggressive onslaught of Hindutva. Only the struggle of these toiling masses led by the working class for establishment of real democracy can stop this aggressive, divisive campaign of the fascist-communal forces. It is high time that the workers, peasants, toiling masses, the oppressed and exploited people unite to rise up against this growing menace in society so that their brothers and sisters in different parts of the country cannot be blindly involved in communal programmes planned by these fascist communal forces and all of them can forge ahead for their struggle against the real problems of livelihood and rights against the mounting attacks of the capitalists and the governments everywhere in their workplaces.

Let that get a renewed start with the open exposure of the black deeds of the communal forces in Bisada village. Condemn this communal attack and frenzy. The Editorial Team of FOR A PROLETARIAN PARTY (www.foraproletarianparty.in/fapp) vehemently condemns this and will always remain part of the struggle of the masses for democracy and liberation from exploitation and oppression, including the vestiges of preponderance of all kinds of divisions and discriminations of old society that still remains as the basis for utilization by these fundamentalist and communal-fascist forces in present society, which are the root causes of all their ills.
